Parents and educators on social media are very excited over the launch of Kiddle….a new safer search engine geared toward children. However after I took a deeper look, I want to urge parents and educators to stop, drop and roll before using this site.
So the first three search items returned are supposed to be from pages geared towards children which have been verified by humans at Kiddle. Top 3 is okay, but my kids are click happy and don’t always understand that a result list is generated on rankings. They are much more likely to click a flashy fun image.
Results 4-7 are supposed to have been hand reviewed also. However, that is not always the case.
The last results “typically 8 and down” according to Kiddle are adult sites filtered by Google safe search.
